Time to Interactive (TTI)

Time to Interactive (TTI) is a new metric developed by Google. It measures the “amount of time between the point at which your page elements have loaded and the point at which those elements become interactive (or usable)”.

Google explains TTI as follows:

Time to Interactive is defined as the point at which layout has stabilized, key web fonts are visible, and the main thread is available enough to handle user input.

The idea here is that with ever more functionally complex web experiences, page speed is only half the issue. We must also consider how fast the page responds to a user’s actions. This makes the metric more a measure of user experience than simply of network performance.

** The latest HEAD script is needed in order to view TTI
